I think this center must be funded by the amount of animals it shelters, rather than how many are adopted out.
The cats are all sitting there in little cages, sleeping in their own litter boxes. They are there for multiple months. Trying to adopt one requires an extensive application and wait time. We got our cat there a year ago, and there are still cats there that were our 2nd or 3rd choice, probably because people gave up trying to get through the bureaucracy of this place.
There are lots of options out there to get an animal the same day. I wouldn't support this shelter.
We adopted our little girl (formally named seven) Savanna from SPCA in 2019, and I have to say, she is the happiest little camper in the world. We liked how thorough they were with her adoption process; they ensured she would go to a great home, and she has! The first two pictures were around when we brought her home, and the last two are more recent :)
They cared for my two shih tzu pups for a month we I could not. They were very kind to Pixie and Maxie. They treated my two girls like family. I will always remember this group of people fondly.
Used vax clinic. Get there early! But they streamline services and do great. So careful with the animals and provide a really great service to the community.
It is a great place if you are looking to adopt a pet.
I have adopted, fostered, and volunteered at the SPCA of Anne Arundel County. They care for their animals and do an excellent job finding adopters. They have wonderful animals that get lots of love from staff and volunteers.
Great low cost shot clinic and wonderful volunteers
The application process is way to strict and the customer service is RUDE!!! I looked at other reviews before I decided to make one myself and I agree with everyone saying the staff is what pushes people away. I get that they want them to go to a good home but they are too.., not strict, but judgmental. Me and my mom decided to get my dad, who is often stuck at the house, a dog, and it happens to be Christmas season. I was denied due to an address issue and when I called I was told “we aren’t giving away puppies as Christmas presents”…The dog I put in an application for was a 6 year old dog that they sponsored on their Facebook, FOR CHRISTMAS. The lady I talked to was rude and had no compassion, the customer service pushes away applicants with their attitude and pre judgments which is sad since they preach “adopt don’t shop”, but they wont even consider me over a simple mistake, so now I have to find another shelter miles away or shop in my area, while those shelter dogs sit there until they are euthanized. And on another note, when I call, why are euthanasia services an option before adoption applications?? I really hope it’s just our area and not all SPCA are like this.
